About

I've been painting and creatively bobbling around for a good few years now. It's been an interesting journey, littered with all sorts of grandiose ideas. I suppose this website is one of them. My work, as you will come to see, is rather childlike. This is not a new thing. For me, and the art world. I've always painted like this and other people before me have painted like this. I'm not sure if it is a conscious decision, more a reckless attempt at getting ideas across as quickly and honestly as possible. For me this can only be done by saying goodbye to patience and stereotypical painting technique and welcoming all things visceral and satirical. I like satire. I always have done. My friends joke that I measure the quality of a film in relation to 'Monty Python and The Holy Grail'. That film in my eyes is brilliant on every level. As is Ren and Stimpy.

I have included my favourite paintings of the last few years on this page. That is not to say they are the best. Somewhat ironically, the majority of paintings that other people like, I don't. Sometimes I paint over these ones. There is a line in the page notes of the inner sleeve of one my favourite albums 'On Land And In The Sea' by Cardiacs. It is explaining about some of the people that helped on the production of the album. What I like is that they berate the most helpful people. For example they remark that they call the sound engineer " 'Die soon', just so it will hurt his feelings" and that he " Sit's in a dingy, like a wanker". It is these sort of things that make me laugh and make me want to do a painting. I also like the novel 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley. That book has a direct influence on my more recent work. You may find a link when you come to look at my 'Purton Today' column on my 'writing' page. It seems that all I ever seem to talk about is how the world is falling apart. But once again I like to give my writing and paintings a certain comic edge to lighten the mood and to deflect the semi-morons.

Anyway, I've given you enough food for thought. It is time for you to look and to think and to question.

That is all for now.

Adam.
